At Floor Coverings International, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives. Today we have an interview with Erin Souder, designer and blogger at Earnest Home Co.
1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a product design and development expert living in Columbus, OH. I not only blog, but also design for my own product line and consult other designers on manufacturing and design best practices. I love fixing up my old farmhouse and throwing lots of parties.
2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I decided to start a blog because friends and family were always asking me how I did things. I’d make a chandelier or a centerpiece for a party and everyone would want to know the step-by-step, so I figured my ideas probably needed a home. I am shocked 4 years later that it’s turned into something so much bigger than I ever anticipated.
3. How would you describe your personal design style?
Natural, clean, neutral – I’ve just recently introduced color in my home and it’s only in the form of Navy.
4. Where do you find most of your inspiration?
My inspiration is from a combination of nature and fashion. Our home is on lots of land, so we do as much outside as we do inside and I like to create a natural flow between the two. As for the fashion influence, I like to combine a masculine and feminine feeling in my home just like I do in my wardrobe, like leather with shine, rustic with delicate, and so on.
5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
I’ve recently redesigned my office and absolutely love the light, airy, and serene feeling I get while I’m in there. It’s the first office in which I actually want to work and stay for hours on end!
